Hewlett 50 Arts Commissions
Opens Aug 14 2019 12:00 AM (PDT)
Deadline Nov 13 2019 05:00 PM (PST)
Description

In celebration of the Hewlett Foundation’s fiftieth anniversary, we are pleased to announce the Hewlett 50 Arts Commissions: a new $8 million commissioning initiative that is the largest of its kind in the United States. In five rounds of grantmaking, the initiative will support the creation of 50 exceptional works and their premiere in the Bay Area through grants of $150,000 to Bay Area nonprofit organizations.

This cycle of commissions will be awarded to support the creation of major dance and movement-based performance projects.  Artists will have the chance to see their creative vision realized, and their partner organizations the opportunity to engage an exceptional artist in developing new work that will speak directly to diverse Bay Area communities.

This new program aligns with our longstanding commitment to providing Bay Area audiences with access to world class performing arts, and it is our hope that the works created will go on to inspire, engage, and challenge audiences across the country and around the world in years to come.
